KRUM PARKS AND OPEN SPACE MASTER PLAN | KRUM, TEXAS

In 2018 Valley Quest Design was selected to help plan for the ever-increasing growth in and around the Krum city limits by developing a new Parks and Open Space Master Plan. The scope of work encompassed identifying Krum’s needs by working with local city officials, surveying citizens, and inventorying existing recreational facilities.

Valley Quest additionally provided a tour of award-winning municipal recreation facilities in the DFW area for Krum city leaders to experience firsthand and inform their considerations on the needs of the city. Once needs were fully identified and assessed, Valley Quest helped prioritize those needs, provide implementation strategies, and identify possible funding sources. The project also included developing specific park facility designs and anticipated costs for improving existing and future recreational facilities.

A comprehensive Operations and Maintenance Plan was created to help the city (which currently has no Parks & Recreation Department) plan for maintenance and staffing needs for the next decade. Among the many tasks performed during the development of the planning document were conducting inventory, analysis, and citizen surveys, as well as coordinating with the Parks Board, and making several presentations to City Council.

This being their first planning project as the prime, Valley Quest Design led a small team of consultants to prepare the findings and recommendations of the report, which will have a shelf life of ten years. Quick to implement their priority action items approved through the planning process, Valley Quest staff has had the opportunity to write two Texas Parks and Wildlife Department grant applications for the city.
